LOSE YOUR MIND, COME TO YOUR SENSES: A JOURNEY TO SENSUAL FULFILLMENT

Fritz Pearls once said, 'Lose your mind, come to your senses,' a statement that holds profound significance in the realm of human experiences, especially when it comes to matters of intimacy. As a sex therapist, I have often found myself turning to this quote as a guiding principle in helping clients break free from the constraints of overthinking and rediscover the pleasures of being in the moment.

*The Overthinking Dilemma*

In the realm of sexuality, our minds tend to dominate the conversation. We're preoccupied with thoughts about performance, partner satisfaction, achieving orgasms, and the elusive concept of doing it 'right.' Unfortunately, this intellectual approach often leads to uninspiring, disconnected, and even anxiety-ridden sexual encounters. We've, quite literally, thought our way into a rut.

Instead of being in the moment, we're trapped in an endless feedback loop of worry and distraction, which not only hinders our own enjoyment but also affects our ability to be attentive and responsive lovers to our partners. The question then becomes: How do we break free from this cycle?

The Solution"Lose Your Mind, Come to Your Senses" "The key lies in the wisdom of Fritz Pearls' quote. 'Lose your mind, come to your senses' encourages us to shift our focus from cerebral musings to the sensory experiences of our bodies. It's an invitation to explore sex from a visceral perspective, engaging not just our minds but our entire beings."

*Discovering Pleasure Through Presence*

Take a moment to close your eyes and recall your last intimate encounter. What did it feel like? What sensations coursed through your body? Recognizing how your body responds to touch, understanding what you enjoy or dislike – this is the gateway to great sex. Rather than chasing orgasms, the key is learning to follow pleasure, allowing it to guide your journey.

By centering ourselves in the present moment, we gift ourselves the opportunity to fully experience the richness of the intimate connection. This is the essence of 'losing your mind' – letting go of the mental chatter and immersing yourself in the physicality of the experience.

*Embracing Safety and Healing*

For some, the idea of being present in their bodies may be challenging, especially for those who have experienced trauma. In such cases, building a container of safety around sex becomes crucial. As a sex therapist, I draw on techniques from somatic bodywork to ketamine therapy to help individuals reconnect with their bodies, making the exploration of pleasure a safe and transformative journey.

So, here's the invitation lose your mind, come to your senses. Pleasure is waiting for you, not in the labyrinth of your thoughts but in the raw, unfiltered sensations of your body. If you find yourself struggling or have experienced trauma that has distanced you from your own sensuality, reach out. Let's embark on a journey together to rediscover the joy and fulfillment that can be found when we embrace our senses and allow pleasure to guide us.
